BEYOND THE 12 ANIMALS

Your Chinese zodiac is only 1 of 8 characters.

Your birth year is just the beginning. See your Eight Characters, Day Master and Five Elements — then keep a card of your own.

No email. No account. Your birth details stay in this browser.

Use the clock time recorded where you were born. This preview uses local civil time, solar-term year/month boundaries and a midnight day boundary. No true solar-time correction. Near a boundary, a different convention can change the chart.

What are the other seven?

BaZi means “Eight Characters.” The year, month, day and hour each contribute a heavenly stem and an earthly branch. The familiar zodiac animal is the year branch — one part of that structure.

This tool uses the existing DI TIAN SUI calendar library. The same inputs and calculation convention produce the same chart. Cultural self-reflection and entertainment; not scientific prediction.

This free calculator displays the Year, Month, Day and Hour Pillars from the birth details you enter. Each pillar has a Heavenly Stem and an Earthly Branch. The Day Master is the stem in the Day column; it is different from your birth-year animal.

  1. Check your inputs. Use the recorded local clock time. If the hour is unknown, select “I don’t know my birth time” instead of inventing an hour. The preview will omit the Hour Pillar.
  2. Read the labelled columns. Find the Day Master first, then compare it with the other displayed stems and branches. The visible-element summary is an introduction, not a complete interpretation of chart strength.
  3. Keep facts and interpretation separate. Calendar labels describe the calculated chart. A symbolic reading is cultural reflection, not evidence that an event will occur.

Why might another calculator give a different chart?

Compare the entered date and time, day-boundary rule, solar-term boundaries and any true-solar-time correction. This preview uses local civil time and a midnight day boundary, without true-solar-time correction. A birth near a boundary needs those assumptions checked before comparing interpretations.
